Salisburys Chartered Accountants are Climbing Snowdon for St Kentigern Hospice!

We are delighted to announce that on Tuesday, the 5th of September 2017, all members of our St Asaph office will be climbing Snowdon (or yr Wyddfa) with the aim of raising much-needed funds for St Kentigern Hospice.

Assisted by two Advanced Nurse Practitioners, as well as 14 very experienced staff nurses, St Kentigern Hospice is a working example of a nurse-led model of care – which means that Advanced Nurse Practitioners can admit patients, clinically assess them, initiate programs of care and prescribe appropriate treatments. The advantages of nurse-led models of care are increased delivery of care and support of people with advanced stages of illness who require care – not diagnosis.

St Kentigern Hospice provides much-needed care and support to patients with active, progressive, or life-limiting illnesses- including symptom control, continuing care, rehabilitation, respite care, and also end of life care where appropriate. St Kentigern’s nurse-led model strives to provide palliative care for patients in a warm and welcoming environment, with respect for dignity and consideration for the patient’s individuality.

There is no one size fits all approach with St Kentigern’s Hospice – the hospice strives to provide care where individuality is embraced. From meals provided on an individual basis, to tailored and comprehensive care plans for the individual, not the condition, St Kentigern does such a fantastic job of providing much-needed care and support to people experiencing the very worst time of their lives.

St Kentigern is also there for support – both psychologically and emotionally for those affected by or bereaved due to a life-limiting illness. St Kentigern Hospices provides support which enables those affected to cope, heal and grow – as well as come to terms with loss.

With the high standards and high level of patient care at St Kentigern Hospice, it might surprise you to learn that this facility is a registered charity which is founded and supported wholly by the local community.

The Day Unit at St Kentigern Hospice cares for up to 10 patients daily, five days a week, and St Kentigern have allowed people to self-refer themselves as needed. St Kentigern’s Inpatient Unit has only eight beds, but manages to provide 24 hour care, 365 days of the year.

The Hospice requires £1.4m a year to stay open, and we’re hoping to do our part to help support this charity – which we’re certain in some way, shape or form, has helped the entirety of the local community.

Please help us with our £1000 target by donating to our JustGiving page (We’re very grateful for donations large and small!), and please feel free to check in on our progress as we prepare for the challenge of the climb, and share stories from our staff about what the work of St Kentigern’s means to them.
